The Virtual Construction Toolkit – Applying the 5D Data Pack to Your Next Project
During our last webinar on the latest version of the Model Progression Specification, we introduced the concept of a Virtual Construction Toolkit. In our example, we likened it to a standard box of Legos from which you can build many great projects.
We illustrated how you can build your own toolkit of generic building elements in the BIM modeling platform of your choice and adhere to the consistent naming conventions that your team has decided upon during the planning. This way, whenever you need to model a new project, you can start organizing your model with these standard parts which already adhere to your level of detail.
But at Vico, we have taken this toolkit a step farther: not only have we already developed these standard parts in both Revit and ArchiCAD (and soon Tekla), but we have also organized:
• Construction activity sets for over 3,000 building elements coded by CSI Uniformat
• Formulas to derive labor and material resources for over 6,000 individual construction
activities classified by CSI Masterformat
• Industry standard productivity rates and resource requirements for over 2,500
project tasks
Come and learn more about this toolkit. Not only does it provide your team with clean and clear model fidelity, but it is also a straight shot to 5D BIM. Who wouldn’t want to drag and drop their way to perfectly composed BIMs complete with scheduling and estimating data?

The 5D Data Pack allows users to harness the predefined integration with Vico Office. Because the building model elements are named correctly, they match up with the cost line items in our estimate. Likewise, the quantity calculation formulas we have predefined read the model element geometry and feed the precise quantities into our cost calculations. And finally, we can associate the cost assemblies and components (labor, material, and equipment) to our construction tasks and apply the industry standard productivity rates. What we have now is the ability to calculate the duration of all our tasks based on quantities by location and these productivity rates. The result? A cost- and resource-loaded schedule.
Did we just create 4D and 5D models by dragging and dropping items from the Virtual Construction Toolkit? Yes, yes we did.
This webinar is for you and your team if:
1.) You are working closely with a design team and subs who want to provide
construction-ready models;
2.) Your firm has a modeling team who want to develop models that synchronize
perfectly with the estimate and the schedule;
3.) Your firm want to make the leap from BIM models for visualization to BIM
models for Construction.
Gather your team for this informative session and see if you can’t use the Virtual Construction Toolkit on your next project.
