In Level 1 training, we learned how to set up both our locations and our location systems. In Level 2, we used Task Manager to connect our cost assemblies and components to the labor. WIth Level 3 training, we established our project calendar and created custom views for our scheduling data. Then in Level 4 we focused on some of the tactics we can employ to optimize our schedule: layered logic, crew size, lag, and paced vs ASAP tasks. And in Level 5 we learned six different ways to optimize your construction schedule: production rates, crew size, location order, combining tasks, splitting tasks, and adding buffer. We also explored the reporting capabilities and a hidden gem to double-check your schedule strategy.
In this level we have some fun. We'll learn how to produce 4D BIM schedule presentation movies. It's important to note that this is not an animation which you work on all night before the Owner presentation manually linking tasks to 3D BIM elements. Because Vico Office is an integrated construction management platform with 2D-3D-4D-5D capabilities, every time 3D geometry changes it is reflected in the schedule and estimate. So when you are finally happy with your schedule, you can customize your playback movies for your intended audience. Your audience can be the Subs in the trailer or the Owner in the conference room. Once you learn how to produce the movies, you'll be showing them to everyone on the team.

Step One: Defining the Playback Settings for Your 4D BIM Schedule Movie
Now that our schedule is nearly complete and we've gone through the questions in the Feasibility Log, we can start to present our schedule to our different audiences. Since we've already assigned our crews to tasks, we can create customized schedule movies for all the trades...or create a general overview for the Owner.
To create a movie for a specific Sub, we just need to create a 4D Task Group and drag and drop their tasks from the Task Manager. Now just pick the colors to represent each of the major task categories for that Sub.
Step Two: Final Tweaks to Your 4D Movie
One way to use the 4D Movies, is in the presentation to the Owner. One way to stand out against the competitors with your presentation is to explain to the Owner that your schedule was scientifically derived from the model geometry. Construction-caliber quantities were extracted from the model geometry, organized into location systems, and divided by crew productivity rates to achieve the durations. To make your point, show two simulations – a typical schedule and your optimal schedule side by side. The Owner will want to know how much each schedule costs and the difference in time is frequently a 10% improvement. You’re going to be the one who can explain that because the Vico Office solution integrates the 3D model with the 4D schedule and the 5D estimate. Another use case for the 4D Movie is with the Subs. They say that a picture is worth a thousand words. Well, a movie must be worth one million. With the Vico Office 4D Manager, it is very easy to customize the scheduling data specifically for each trade. This means each trade can have their own view of the schedule, as well as a custom 4D movie to help them understand their tasks. This way you can communicate to each trade on-site where they need to be each day/week/month and what they need to accomplish.
