Schedule Optimization Workshop
During the Schedule Optimization Workshop, we will walk through the CPM Alignment with your planning team, and, if possible, your extended team of subcontracotrs.
Step 1. Validate the Schedule Framework. Together we will review the location-breakdown structure and the trade-specific location systems, as well as the task list and logic. If subs are present, this can include task name, prerequisites, resource types and counts, and past productivity. We will also provide our list of questions about the schedule uncovered during the translation - usually a housekeeping list of issue we discovered during our quality check of the schedule.
Step 2. Pull Planning Session to define and refine the logic and constraints and to input this information into Vico Office Schedule Planner. This information delivers our first pass of the schedule. But with subcontractors present, we can aligh our production rates to shore up the schedule. Together we utilize the quantities and production data to leverage the most efficient installation methods and verify what crew sizes are possible. As the baseline schedule comes together, all participants can see that this cooperation reduces risk and increases predictability.
Step 3. Review Issues such as discontinuities, bottlenecks, any crew overlaps, wasted time, etc.
Step 4. Balance Resources by location for all active trades. This means working towards fewer stops and starts to reduce risk. This means analyzing waiting cost versus release costs. This means evaluating planned demobilizations or ASAP tasks. When all options are considered, we will have optimized the schedule within the original CPM phase milestones. Remember, we are not looking to compress or accelerate the schedule - only to reduce risk, resources, and cost within the framework of the original CPM.
Step 5. Team Sign-Off and Roll Out. We deliver the baseline schedule to you in every format you specify: gantt, flowline, a list of start dates, resource histograms, etc. Consider this your "manpower coordination plan" for the project.
After reviewing this information with your team, you can elect to learn production control techniques so you can better manage to this schedule out on the jobsite. This Production Control Workshop is perfect for your Superintendents, PEs, and Subs.
Caption: As part of the Vico CPM Match Service, we work with your team to compare the original CPM schedule and the new Vico schedule. In a workshop setting, we review the principles of both Location-Based Management System and Flowline theory – the two underlying principles of Vico scheduling solutions. Then we systematically apply optimization techniques in an attempt to remove risk, balance resources, and keep crews flowing from location-to-location without stops and starts. Together, we analyze the results and verify feasibility with your Subs. Many GCs like their Subs to participate throughout this workshop, including the optional pull scheduling sticky note session.
