Vico Software Announces Vico Office Constructability Manager
Clash Detection and Constructability Analysis in an Integrated Workflow for Coordination
Boulder, CO - September 21, 2010 - Vico Software, the leader in 5D Virtual Construction™, announced the release of a new module to its award-winning Vico Office Suite. Vico Office Constructability Manager is an integrated approach to traditional clash detection, offering constructability analyses, and interfaces to RFI tracking, assignments, and resolution reporting.
Vico Office Constructability Manager compares multiple model types from multiple BIM authoring tools. This means that architects can publish the architectural model to Vico Office, structural engineers can publish the structural model, and subcontractors can publish MEPF models. Once inside Vico Office, the GC can identify BIM object clashes and determine if these warrant further review. They can even add items manually to make sure no concern is overlooked. Significant clashes can be escalated to constructability issues for review with the team. If no solution is determined, the constructability issue can be tagged to a team member and an RFI generated.
And with the powerful constructability analysis reporting engine, all project stakeholders can quickly review issues and RFIs, see which items have been resolved, and attach dollar values. Dan Gonzales, the corporate virtual design and construction manager at Swinerton Builders remarked, “We ran some metrics on ten major projects and the average cost of a change order was $17,000. On the [Lake Tahoe] Ritz-Carlton project we found over 450 change orders that we were able to avoid through the model coordination process. So, if you do the math, that's about $6.7 million that we saved the Owner.”
There are many advantages to Vico Constructability Manager in an integrated 5D virtual construction workflow:
BIM object clashes versus polygonal clashes.
- Only one clash is reported per object collision. This makes sorting and prioritizing the coordination issues much more streamlined and efficient.
Easy to use RFI data flow.
Clashes can be promoted to constructability issues and prioritized for resolution. If no immediate resolution is possible, the constructability issue is promoted to an RFI. Both constructability issues and RFI’s can be included in dynamically updated status reports.
Manual constructability issues.
- Experience pays off, even in the virtual world. Project engineers and superintendents recognize constructability issues even when clashes are not present. Manual constructability markers can be placed in the model so every issue can be identified, tracked, and resolved ahead of actual construction.
- Just publish or import models to Vico Office and you’re ready to start work. Vico Office works with ArchiCAD, CAD-Duct, IFC, Revit, and Tekla.
Coordinated models for downstream consumption.
- Schedulers and Estimators can now work with a higher level of accuracy in their models in the same Vico Office environment for better quantity takeoff, 4D scheduling, and 5D cost planning.
$2,495 for a single user license.
“Resolving issues in preconstruction translates to savings in both cost and time. Whether the project team opts for more off-site prefabrication, or simply saves time with better plans and better-informed crews, the result is a higher quality building and a positive impact on cost and schedule,” stated Marcel Broekmaat, product manager at Vico Software.
