Vico Software and Newforma Announce Partnership
Leading construction industry software vendors to integrate products using the Associated General Contractors' agcXML specification
Boulder, CO and Manchester, NH - September 24, 2009 - Vico Software,
the leader in 5D Virtual ConstructionTM, and Newforma®, a software company addressing the project information management (PIM) needs of architecture, engineering and construction firms, have announced a partnership to jointly develop product integration between their 5D BIM and PIM solutions. The partnership will utilize, as its strategic basis, the agcXML schema for open data exchange between Vico OfficeTM and Newforma® Project Center to execute requests for information (RFIs) and to coordinate the change management process.
The Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) developed agcXML as a framework to facilitate the reliable exchange of digital project data for construction. "Allowing professionals to openly share key project information will deliver enormous efficiencies and savings for architects, engineers, contractors and project owners," says AGC Chief Executive Officer Stephen Sandherr. "Partnerships like this are essential to converting the promise of improved data exchange efficiencies into a reality that saves the construction industry millions of dollars every year."
Newforma Chief Executive Officer Ian Howell welcomes the opportunity to partner with Vico Software to provide closed-loop work processes for all members of the AEC project team through a product integration strategy based on the agcXML specification. "The need to share project information more openly to meet the transparency requirements of integrated project delivery, or IPD, demands a new approach to the role that RFIs and change orders play in the design and construction process. These processes need to transition away from being the tools of adversaries that have traditionally been used to claim extras into being vehicles for the timely communication of rich building information that facilitates decision-making by a shared accountability team."
"Partnering with Newforma to link upstream project delivery workflows with our Virtual Construction solutions will provide real value for our customers," says Vico Software Chief Executive Officer Mark Sawyer. "Our joint implementation of the agcXML schema as a common framework will allow us to tie the transactional information being captured in Newforma Project Center to our Vico Office suite to quickly determine the cost and schedule impact of changes."
