Rex Procter & Partners Implement Vico Software

UK Cost Consultancy to Expand Practice with 5D BIM

Boulder, CO – June 5, 2012 – Vico Software, the leader in 5D Virtual Construction™, is pleased to announce that Rex Procter & Partners, a premier construction consultancy in the UK, has selected Vico Office for its business.

Recently, the UK mandated the use of BIM on all government projects by 2016 and Rex Procter & Partners is poised to deliver cost planning, quantity surveying, and cost variance reporting with Vico’s 5D BIM solutions.  By utilizing BIM for Construction, RP&P offers its clients the benefits of 3D visualization with the accuracy of construction-caliber quantities from the model geometry.  It is these precise quantities which drive better bids, better estimates, and faster turnaround on design changes.

“Rex Procter & Partners is pleased to be at the forefront of consultants utilizing the latest in 5D BIM technology to further enhance the delivery of our quality service that adds real value to the construction project to the benefit of our Clients,” stated Andrew Wharton, Director at RP&P.  “The use of Vico’s 5D BIM software will enhance our core services to help us meet our strategic vision to be the business of choice for professional construction services.  Expected efficiency gains for such smarter working can be passed on to our Clients.”

Rex Procter & Partners specializes in cost consulting and quantity surveying.  Key to these two services is a proper quantity takeoff, cost planning, a thorough understanding of how quantities drive the schedule duration, and an audit trail of pre- and post-contract design changes and their impact on the budget.  Vico Office offers unique solutions for these services:

Quantity Takeoff: the solution evaluates and analyzes each piece of BIM geometry from the model and permits the user to manually add takeoff items for non-modeled items to account for every detail of the construction project.

Iterative Cost Planning: the estimate evolves with each model version and with each drawing set. Users can quickly identify what has changed since the last meeting, the last drawing set, or the last model version and flag any areas out of budget. Users can quickly compare two versions of the cost plan and report on the variance (see below).

Visual Cost Variance: 5D BIM is very visual and seeing the quantity takeoff integrated with the 3D model and the cost plan makes it very easy to investigate which systems are under/over budget or missing important information. This data can be formatted in a formal report, as well.

Costs and Quantities per Location: this report organizes large staged projects like high tech campuses, hospitals, and sports complexes and informs the analysis of cash flow per stage.

Quantities per Location for Scheduling: because Vico Office integrates the entire 3D-4D-5D construction workflow, users develop the schedule and estimate in tandem. Having insight into the schedule duration from the concept stage is critical to costing the project accurately, not to mention, managing to that schedule and those costs on-site.

“The Vico cost planning solutions were built to ease the transition from 2D to 5D and take users from 100% paper to 100% BIM and almost any combination in between,” stated Mark Sawyer, CEO and President of Vico Software.  “We welcome Rex Procter & Partners as a progressive consultancy who truly understands the value that 5D BIM delivers and is ready to serve the UK market as it makes its transition to BIM.”
