Industry Conference Examines How BIM Can Increase the Standard of Care
Boulder, CO - September 22, 2009 - Vico Software, the leader in BIM for Construction, will be joining industry leaders at the next AGC BIM Forum, October 8-9, in Philadelphia.
We'll probably be censured by the Philadelphia Visitors Authority for this statement, but the first thing that comes to mind when someone says Philadelphia isn't Ben Franklin or the signing of the Declaration of Independence. It's Rocky Balboa training on the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
And that's just about what everyone feels like as we slog our final uphill steps to get out of this recession. We were fat and happy for a good long time and those habits are hard to break. But we know we have to get lean and mean to get through these hard times, and training hard is the only way we're going to do it.
Training knocks us out of our comfort zone with the extra exercise and reduced caloric intake. But in the words of every athlete, you've got to break it down before you can build it back up.
BIM knocks us out of our comfort zone, too. It's tough to learn, harder to master, and requires us to re-examine how we do business. It challenges us to be more transparent with our processes and share information between departments. It replaces confrontation with collaboration, permitting a new standard of care to customers.
That's the theme of this AGC BIMForum - establishing a new standard of care. We're all used to technological improvements that are faster and cheaper than the old version. The latest BIM releases from all our partners and fellow vendors provide this. But we also want to push the envelope: how can we improve construction by preventing potential errors, increase quality, and provide tangible and intangible benefits? How can we as the AGC Community, increase the standard of care?
The case studies on tap for this conference illustrate how GCs are working together with Owners to provide a unique level of collaboration and teamwork. From Vico's perspective, we'll look at two projects that highlight McCarthy Builders and their innovative use of virtual mock-ups and in-wall coordination to provide exceptional service to St. Joseph Health System.
During the RapidFire Tech Demos, we'll unveil Vico Doc Set Manager, a new product that automatically collates and compares thousands of drawing sets for construction projects; assigns, tracks, and reports RFIs. Perfect for collaborative team settings, users can quickly identify which drawings had changes, cloud the areas in question and with additional comments, then investigate which changes are important enough to escalate.
As a sponsor of the AGC BIM Forum, we encourage everyone to attend these conferences, as well as take advantage of local AGC chapter events. Be sure to register for the next meeting in Philadelphia, October 8-9.
AGC's BIMForum "is considered the best place for collaboration and collective action to relieve the aches and achieve the potential gains of the paradigm shift to BIM-enabled design and construction." Engineering News Record, Nov. 2008
If you need airplane reading materials, please review past AGC BIMForum meetings and resources from Dallas, La Quinta, Falls Church, and Lake Tahoe. The meeting notes include articles, whitepapers, collateral, presentations, and archived webinars.
For those of you that are attending the conference, please let us know if you'd like to meet one-on-one. We're available to answer any questions, demonstrate the new Vico Office solution, and introduce you to other customers. We're happy to schedule meeting times that don't conflict with the conference proceedings.
Just as Rocky took to the streets of Philadelphia for training, do the same and join us at the next BIMForum. Yes, BIM will take you out of your comfort zone, but ultimately, it will make your firm stronger and more competitive when the economy turns the corner.
Cue Gonna Fly Now.
